Vows, oaths, commitments and promises - what do they all have in common? Easy to make, hard to keep, and absolutely essential for everyday life. Where would we be without them?
Sunday at Storyline's Gathering, Mike Gathright took a deeper look at a particular kind of oath/promise/commitment...covenant. It's an archaic word that could not be more relevant for our real every day lives.
CATCH THE WAVE
Has there ever been a time in history where things have changed this much, this fast? We are living in the midst of the Information Revolution and it is changing every aspect of life - including how we see ourselves and the purpose of life.
But could all the change around us just reflect the change in us? And could Jesus give us some traction in navigating both? These are a few of the questions Mike Gathright asked this Sunday at Storyline's Gathering.
CONSISTENT AND PERSISTENT
There are a lot of mysteries about faith and God; prayer is no exception! On one hand, prayer seems pretty straight forward, just do it. On the other hand, it's a total mystery. If God is good and can do all things, why should we pray? Doesn't God already know what we need? Isn't he going to give us everything that's good for us and deny us everything that isn't, anyway?
These were some of the questions Jill McNabnay looked at about prayer on Sunday.
THE EXTRAORDINARY ORDINARY
Well, now what? If Easter is true why do so many people still struggle so much with Jesus? He alienated and offended just about every kind of person in the bible. How could that be?
Sunday at Storyline’s Gathering Mike Gathright explored the reasons Jesus frustrated so many people, and how that frustration is the key to following Him.
SIMPLE DOESN'T MEAN EASY
So many things about life are so hard, complicated and convoluted. Religion certainly falls in to this category. Is Easter just another part of all that?
Sunday at Storyline's Gathering Mike Gathright considered how Easter actually makes one of, if not THE, most important part of life much more simple.
Weak Or Lovely
Life is _____________. Depending on the day, our circumstances, the weather we could fill that blank in with just about anything - but certainly we all have to agree, that at times life is difficult, complicated and painful.
Why? That is the big question, but no one has ever been able to answer completely. If we can't figure out why, can we talk about how - Sunday at Storyline's Gathering Mike Gathright considered how we can face and deal with the struggles of life by looking at the story of a man named Jacob.
Story Sunday
The Bible is full of God's stories. Our lives are made up of our own stories. Storyline is composed of all of those stories coming together. On Sunday morning, we heard a few Storyliner's share what God is doing in their lives and how that impacts all of us.
SUFFERING AND INJUSTICE
What is going on? What - in the WORLD - is going on? The nightly news is almost always bad, but lately, sheeesh, it has been just horrible. Something is very definitely wrong with the world.
Sunday at Storyline's Gathering Mike Gathright considered the source of suffering and injustice in the world, and the very unique perspective and solution Jesus is offering us all.
SEARCH FOR SIGNIFICANCE
Faith is not easy. What is it? How does it work? What is it in? These are just a few of the very difficult questions we have been asking about faith. Sunday at Storyline's Gathering Jill McNabnay considered another question; one that helps the others fall in to place - what is faith for?
CATCH PHRASE
For Clint Eastwood it was, "Go ahead, make my day." For Arnold, "I'll be back." For Fred, "Yabba dabba do!" Mottos, slogans and catch phrases are common place in our culture. Even Jesus had them. And so does Storyline.
Sunday, at the Gathering, Mike Gathright looked at two of Storyline's catch phrases and explored how they relate to faith and our real every day lives.
SOMETHING'S MISSING
What does it really take to get on God's side? What does it really mean to have faith? There has to be some kind of rubric or syllabus or answer right!?
Paul Knapp explored the answers to those very questions, and gave some insight into what it might practically look like to live on God's side.
IMPOSSIBLE FAITH
We often forget just how connected our world has become - cell phones, the internet, 24/7 news cycles - UNTIL we are disconnected. When the network goes down or the cable goes out we almost don't know what to do. Being disconnected makes life difficult to say the least. Being disconnected from God is even worse.
Sunday at Storyline's Gathering Mike Gathright explored how we can connect with God and His grace.
Commercial Sunday
On Superbowl Sunday over 100 million Americans watch the game, with a worldwide audience of about 1 BILLION! It is a truly a worldwide spectacle...and an incredible opportunity to sell products to millions of customers. Maybe that is why it costs $8 million dollars per minute to run a commercial during the Super Bowl.
Sunday at Storyline's Gathering - the commercials were absolutely free! This was Storyline's 3rd annual "Commercial Sunday" where Storyliner's shared their favorite commercial and how it inspired them.
Where He Always Is
There are some questions that are really hard to find the answer to? Who are we? Why are we here? How are we supposed to live? These are big and important questions, with very elusive answers. Science, education, industry, technology haven't seemed to help us much with any of these. Is there a place to look for some answers?
These were some of the questions that Mike Gathright investigated Sunday at Storyline's Gathering.
The Prescription
Did you know there is one thing - ONE thing that EVERY person agrees with. ONE thing that all perspectives, philosophies, religions and world views see the exact same way. What is that one thing?
Mike Gathright revealed that answer and then explored how and why Jesus takes a radically different path than every perspective, philosophy, worldview and religion.
